Food & Care
The Food & Care zine
The excerpts and stories featured throughout the zine were shared by community members across Greater Manchester. The data is collected by Dr Elise Imray Papineau. The zine itself is created and illustrated by the talented Hat Collins.
This zine showcases some of the key findings from the Food & Care case study, conducted in late 2024 - early 2025 in Greater Manchester. We wanted to provide an accessible, creative output from this case study that people can easily read and share. Click below to access a PDF copy of the zine.
The Potluck
On April 3rd, 2025, a group of community members, researchers, artists, and activists met in Platt Fields Market Garden to share stories, updates, songs, and delicious home-cooked food courtesy of MUD Kitchen. We reflected on the role of food-sharing in community care. We asked: What spaces make you feel cared for? Who do you connect with through food? What kind of creative skills have you learned through cooking and food growing? What does food provide for your own well-being, for your relationships, beyond sustenance?
Through the Food & Care case study, we identified three main themes about food-sharing and community care. These are: spatial design, creativity & improvisation, and connection. We continue to reflect on the shifting role of care within food-sharing spaces, both within and outside ‘conventional’ arenas of care.
